02 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park 24th & 25th June

So anyway, Fringey didn’t meet up until after we’d finished work on the Friday – we’re not students you know! And promptly had a couple of mojitos (to fortify us against the rain. Also Luce had decided, in her wisdom, to wear flip flops. Never let someone wearing flip flops walk in front of you through mud. Ever.) - before going on into the park just in time to see the BRAVERY slipping and sliding all over the wet stage. Having said that they were surprisingly good. Far better than when I saw them at the start of the year in the Astoria. Endicotts posing about suits a bigger stage and now their album is actually out, it’s a bit more justified. There was extra entertainment when the bassist went arse first over the barriers. All the blue eyeliner in the world couldn’t save him! Excellent.
We also saw random band called PROTOCOL in the O2 area, they were ummmm... oh they did have quite complicated haircuts, watched a bit of THE DEARS, or The DULLS as the ever witty Fringey has rechristedned them, and then YETI – (sounded just like the Coral/Cast), there may have been some elbows and knees dancing to them, and finally NEW ORDER who were utterly brilliant! (We weren't expecting that.)
We were perhaps a bit tipsy by this point and were dancing round our handbags, it was like the eighties all over again. And then we nearly wet ourselves when they played JOY DIVISION songs. They ended on the genius ‘Blue Monday’, Hooky rocked the bass and even Bernard Sumner’s “dad” dancing was forgivable!
Was very hung over on the Saturday, so didn't get into town till 3.30pm (meeting in Bradleys, off course). Had a few beers then got there in time to see LCD SOUNDSYSTEM. James Murphy was excellent, although I’ve probably said that before. I don’t understand people who don’t like the LCD – weirdos. We grooved for a bit with ROOTS MANUVA, before heading to a tent for some dancing to remixed indie tunes from Glimmers. (and they always always play a bit of Soulwax – brilliant). Then finally BASEMENT JAXX, who basically did the same greatest hits setlist as they played the following night at Glastonbury. Even down to the Kylie cover. Lots of dancy fun, and brilliant singing along to “wheres your head at” with nearly 20,000 people!
And all that for FREE (we ‘won’ the tickets)!!! Hurrah!
