Dogs @ the Scala - woof!

Fringey had never been to the Scala before (and why not?) and we spent so long tracking down the loos and the upstairs bar (some clear signage might have been of assistance) that we missed KOMAKINO – gutted! We blame the rubbish running order!

However we did get to see the NEW RHODES, one of those very proficient bands who have invested a lot of time in knowing how to play their instruments, but we were too distracted by their fluffy clean hair to take them seriously, and really, they aren’t bringing anything new to the table are they? Doomed to the toilet circuit unfortunately. Later the CAZALS were just crap.

However, sandwiched between them, were the nights raison detre :-

DOGS!
(nope, I will not be making a rubbish ‘hot dogs’ pun here.)

I don’t think I need to go on too much about their performance, Luce may have mentioned that they were ok a few times in her post. The kids down the front were absolutely LOVING it. Then, near the end of the night’s entertainment - after we’d given up all hope, following the cruddy crappness of the Cazals, (and after numerous trips to the bar) came MOHAIR. The place was practically empty and we stumbled in front of the stage almost by accident, but the big hair of Mohair was an unexpected musical treat! (Although Fringey was quite tipsy and after midnight any kazoo playing random would probably be considered a musical treat by us.)

We finally drank the dregs of the evening in the VIP bar (got in after discovering the door had been left unguarded!)!

Art Brut @ ULU

This was my third viewing of the Brut, but the first at a proper venue. And my, don’t they all scrub up well. The new – ex Art Goblin - guitarist looks to be well broken in now and the nights various technical difficulties with sound/guitars/mics/whatever were well covered by Eddie “comedy” Argos.

They are such an inclusive band the audience has no choice but to love them. And we do, even Eddie’s dubious facial fuzz. The bands performance is energetic, shambolic and euphoric, as Eddie’s does his version of a lyrical jackanory, instructing us in the Art Brut way of life. He sings/speaks his stories of new girlfriends and sexual dysfunction with wit and humility. – Then, once we’re totally won over, we are instructed to buy the new single in “All. Three. Formats!”

Top of the Pops? Only a matter of time. Are you ready Art Brut?

no Limelight for the Editors

This is where a review of the Editors Belfast gig should be. However I never made it beyond the barricade of burnt out cars at the end of my road. I hate Belfast and all wankers in balaclavas!

The Editors played a blinding gig by all accounts, meaning that I couldn’t even claim a refund on my ticket. Pants.

not bitter.
